My grandmother, sadly enough, is a die-hard tea-party Republican, hard-core Protestant, "the-Lord-will-save-us-when-the-world-ends" believing, and gay-rights hating copy machine. She listens to whatever the heck the Bible tells her, whatever the hell spills out of the Republicans' mouths, and whatever the Christian channel wants to send out in the world to have people "support the Lord." Then, she repeats it. Over and over, hoping to get her point across to everyone of her grandchildren. Sometimes, I think I'm the only one that isn't being fooled.
What makes any Republican that pays less taxes than us have to teach the world? How can they change anything for the better?
What makes the Christian channel reverend? Nothing- because they want money. Ever notice how many rings and robes they all have? I wonder where they found the money to buy that stuff with? By God's good graces? He didn't hand money to them. They asked for money from unsuspecting 86-year-old grannies like mine. And they won. Happy?
What makes scaring these same grannies into thinking the world is going to end any bit of good? How do you know the world is going to end? From that Bible that was written 400 years after Jesus and his Disciples died? What about all those other texts that Constantine scratched when he was assembling the Bible? Ever think about what those would have said?
How is believing what Republicans believe (that all men are created equal) not not mutually exclusive with rights for LGBT+ ? So what their parts or minds might not be correct in her eyes? Can't they think and breath and learn and talk and sing and dance and laugh? Just like everyone else? So what's the problem with having the same rights? What now they won't even be able to vote because they want something that doesn't coincide with her views? Good luck finding anyone with those same views. No one is the same. Everyone is different. Not all men are created equal, but they are given (should be given) the same opportunities in life, because how can you live life if others won't let you live it?
She takes whatever she hears and repeats it over and over. Never changing, wavering, tweaking. Nada. Ziltch. Zero. Just whatever others have told her.
Stop the gossip, because it is breaking my soul. My grandma is the sweetest person in the world when you talk to her about your own life. Then that lasts five minutes. And she goes back to being her copy machine and answering machine self. Nada. Ziltch. Zero.
I'm tired of it. Next time, I won't listen to any of it. Nada. Ziltch. Zero.
